Bio

Harry Thetford served proudly in the United States Marine Corps, with assignments in the Philippines, Japan, and on board the aircraft carrier USS PRINCETON.  After a hitch in the Marines, he went on to a career with Sears, Roebuck & Co, retiring as a store manager.

He and his wife, Martha, live in Greensboro, NC.  They have three grown children and seven grandchildren.  For almost 30 years they were avid RV’ers, traveled in every state, every province, and eight countries in Western Europe.  They are active members of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro.

Thetford writes two veterans columns each month for the Greensboro News & Record.  He has written scores of columns under the pen name, Ol’Harry, published by the Pleasant Garden Post and Crossroads Journal.
He serves as Historian for Detachment 260 of the Marine Corps League, the Carolina Field of Honor, and Lawndale Baptist Church.
